Trenton’s new logo

In case you missed it, in May the Club’s ECHL namesake organization the Trenton Titans changed their name to the Trenton Devils to reflect an ownership change that happened September ‘06. From their website:

National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils re-branded its ECHL affiliate from the “Trenton Titans” to the “Trenton Devils.” The Devils became the only hockey franchise with the same nickname at the NHL (New Jersey), AHL (Lowell), and ECHL (Trenton) levels. In 2007-08, the Trenton Devils, 2004-05 Kelly Cup Champions, will enter its ninth season of operation and will play its home games at the 7,605-seat Sovereign Bank Arena.

Reaction has been mixed. Some are happy to see the Devils organization become more important to NJ Hockey, while others are certain that local Flyer fans might have a little trouble rooting for anything Devils. Still others seem to miss the local flavor of the Titan of Industry standing over the Lower Free Bridge that carries Trenton’s slogan since the 1920s “Trenton Makes, the World Takes”.

That leaves our club, the Junior Titans as the unique New Jersey Hockey Titans. We had a good relationship with the Trenton club emanating from when Mike Haviland was their head coach, but the 2 organizations are separate. This actually may work out nicely for the Wall club as the Junior Titans are looking to enhance their Junior Hockey Franchises. A successful Junior program will not be confused with the Trenton ECHL program. We are not alone in the hockey world with the Titan name. There are: The Rocky Mountain Titans, (South) Carolina Titans, The Minneapolis (Minn.) Titans, Trinity Western University Titans in British Columbia, Southern California Titans, Ottawa Valley Titans, and the Saint John’s Jesuit H.S. of Toledo Ohio Titans. Go NJ Junior Titans!
